Personal Qualities
I am a very artistic person and I do well in projects that incorporate some sort of visual representation and or art work. I work well with other people and can adapt to the needs of a group. I like to work with children, especially when I am in a teaching or mentoring position. I would like to be an elementary school teacher when I grow up and I spend my summers interning at a girls’ music camp called Bay Area Girls Rock Camp. I am sociable but also work well alone and I love working in creative fields.
New Basics
I have done well with my “new basics” courses and general testing. I have been a learner at the Alameda Community Learning Center since the sixth grade. ACLC is an institution that requires its learners to not only meet the AUSD academic standards but to be self sufficient while doing so. I have learned how to manage my time, how to work in many different situations and environments, and, maybe the most important and difficult for me to learn, how to ask for help when it is needed. By the end of this school year, I will have completed the ACLC/AUSD graduation requirements and through doing so, prepared myself for college. ACLC has prepared me for many things but I think the most important and useful skill it has given me is the ability to adapt.
Thinking and Reasoning Skills
My favorite type of work is the kind where I get to figure something out. I love puzzles and riddles and I was labeled gifted and talented in the reasoning test used by the GATE program. I work well in situations where I need to figure out an answer. I take great pride in solving problems and I am always up to the task. Reasoning is definitely one of my strong suits.
Interpersonal and Collaborative Ability
I work well in groups and I am able to get work done with many different groups of people. I am sociable and I let others lead when they have strong ideas. I make sure to help others in my groups and strive to make everyone in the group feel valued and heard. I am not afraid to take leadership positions if it is necessary and I am always open to others’ ideas. I do not get easily stressed and I work well under pressure so I do not stress others out while getting work done.
Technology
I have experience and skill in using technology for work and I am comfortable using it in my everyday life. I am very good with presentation tools such as powerpoint and prezi as well as the general setup of these programs. I have taken multiple Digital Video Studio classes and I am proficient in camerawork, editing, and presenting video works. I use technological programs in my everyday school experience and I am very comfortable with it.
